Garner-Stocker Foundation

When we opened the first Taco Mayo across the street from the high school in Norman, Oklahoma, our humble goal was to feed the hungry and to make a decent living doing it. It was May 1978.

Today, Taco Mayo is a burgeoning operation with franchises and company-owned stores throughout the south–central region of the United States. Recognizing that success does not come easily-especially for individuals in less fortunate circumstances-we take very seriously our responsibilities to the communities that have been so good to us.

Inspired with gratitude for our success, we chose the occasion of Taco Mayo’s 20th anniversary in 1998 to establish a charitable foundation that is nurturing not only the bodies, but also the minds and spirits of people in need throughout the world.

FOUNDATION PURPOSE

The purposes of the Garner-Stocker Foundation are simply to: Feed the minds of needy and deserving people through the promotion and award of scholarships for education. Nourish the bodies of people through the support of organizations dedicated to such purpose and by making food available to those in need. Sustain the spirits of all people through the support of churches and other ministries dedicated to the enrichment of the human spirit. We provided the seed money and the leadership to work toward these humanitarian goals. We invite you to join us as partners in this mission with a donation to the Garner-Stocker foundation.

FOUNDATION VALUES

The Garner-Stocker Foundation is proud to help needy and deserving college students in their pursuit of education. “A scholarship can make such a difference in the path a person takes in life. It is truly a hand up, not a hand out,” says Susan Stocker-Garner.

The Garner-Stocker Foundation supports organizations that feed the hungry, the most basic act of compassion that human beings can perform for one another.

“How can we hope to uplift people’s minds and souls if their stomachs are empty?” says J.W. “Red” Garner.

The Garner-Stocker Foundation assists ministries that enhance the human spirit.

“Sooner or later most of us turn to a Higher Power to help us through life. When that happens, we realize that we are not alone. We are all the children of the same God,” says Susan Stocker-Garner.

MISSION STATEMENT

Feeding the minds, bodies and spirits of people throughout the world.

CORE VALUES

For charity, and not for profit, we shall: Feed the minds of needy and deserving people through the promotion and award of scholarships for education. Nourish the bodies of people through support of organizations dedicated to such purpose and by making food available to those in need. Sustain the spirits of all people through the support of churches and other ministries dedicated to the enrichment of the human spirit. “People’s good intentions are like drops of rain. One-by-one they don’t amount to much, but all together they can form a mighty ocean.” – J.W. “Red” Garner.

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

“In keeping with the Garner-Stocker Foundation’s Mission Statement and Core Values, scholarships have been awarded to deserving individuals each year. Since its founding in 1998, the foundation has awarded more than $400,000 to hundreds of deserving students. And we’ll continue awarding more scholarships each year as the foundation continues to grow.”

CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT

Each year Taco Mayo hosts an annual charity golf tournament, benefiting the Garner-Stocker Foundation at the prestigious Oak Tree National in Edmond, OK. All of Taco Mayo valued vendor partners make this event successful.
